AN EXPLOSIVE doubleheader will usher in the 25th season of the National Capital Region Athletic Association on December 5 (Tuesday) at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.  No less than Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairperson William “Butch” Ramirez will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker.

Newcomer University of Luzon will test the mettle of Asian Institute of Maritime Studies in the opener at 12:00 PM.  Ironically, the Golden Tigers will travel all the way from Dagupan City while their opponents the Blue Sharks are just a block away from the venue.

In the main game at 2:00 PM, another newcomer AMA University will match skills with Philippine Merchant Marine School.  The Titans will enter the NCRAA loaded with PBA D-League veterans led by Andre Paras against the Mariners, the league’s champion from two seasons ago.

The sixteen participating schools have been divided into two groups of eight.  AIMS and UL will be in Group A together with De Ocampo Memorial College, Olivarez College, Philippine School of Business Administration-Quezon City, Saint Francis of Assisi College, Technological Institute of the Philippines and New Era University while AMA and PMMS are in Group B along with De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, National College of Business and Arts, PATTS College of Aeronautics, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa and University of Makati.

The teams will play a single round amongst themselves for seven games each with the top four in each group advancing to the knockout crossover quarterfinals.  Both the semifinal and championship series will be best of three affairs.

A simple opening ceremony at 10:00 AM will be bannered by talents from all the member schools.  This year’s President is Engr. Patrick Nolasco of PMMS while Manuel “Buddy” Encarnado and Arturo “Bay” Cristobal are the league’s General Manager and Basketball Commissioner respectively.
